To say last nights Drake show was packed is an understatement. The female to male ratio, probably about 8:1. Crazy thing is, the man of the hour didn't show up til after 11pm. Atlantic Records Presents VIBE VSessions, Trey Songz

Last night at Joe's Pub (NYC), was VIBE's 2nd VSessions for 2009. Started off with Toccara and all her extraness giving props to all the Execs in the building. From VIBE's EIC Danyel Smith, to Kevin Liles, Andre Harrell and Mike Keyser. Toccara's ranting and raving goes on for about 7 minutes and then she finally introduces the first act, Young Steff. "Who?" you ask. Word has it he's previously of Roc-a-fella Records. Dude comes out rockin' a ponytail and fitted with two matching (yes matching) back up dancers. Now, don't get me wrong, dude can dance. Was even giving me Omarion at one point. But that ponytail... chop!

A Sanctified Sunday

I'm finally home after a long day of church. No, I'm not complaining at all. Visited another church with my friend Marcus. He failed to tell me his church services are *very* long (nothing but love Marcus but dang, you coulda warned me) but I enjoyed it non the less. After the 12 o'clock service ending at about 4:30pm, church folk gathered in the dining room to get their grub on. I *tore up* that fried fish!

6:30pm Israel & New Breed were performing (for free) at Brooklyn Tabernacle downtown Brooklyn. Marcus, myself and some young folk from his church all went and it was AMAZING! I haven't felt this good on a Sunday in a very long time. Going to bed feeling good about the week to come.

Weekly Pow Wow

Me and my girls decided to start having pow wow's to discuss boys, money, music and of course work/school. Started about 2 weeks ago and I must say its been successful : ) Alana usually cooks and we all sit around the living room chattin and chewin and catchin up on the weeks has-beens. This week, we plan to do it a little differently.

Brooklyn's Habana Outpost is re-opening tomorrow so I proposed to Alana, Kandyce and Laurisha that we celebrate there! Fun right?! Let's not forget that Habana Outpost is NYC's first eco-eatery. What is an eco-eatery you ask? Only means the restaurant uses earth-friendly practices in their design, construction, and day-to-day operations. In this age, we need that! (Gold star for Habana!) So if you're in the Fort Greene area tomorrow, look me up : )

VIBE Celebrates the Notorious DVD Release

Last night in NYC, VIBE hosted the celebration of the Unrated Directors Cut of Notorious on DVD (that was fast right?). The festivities went down at NYC's Pink Elephant (I was there a few weeks ago for the Keri Hilson album release party but couldn't get in because of the crazy security guards--yes, i was pissed!) with a bunch of stars all in the mix. VIBE (and also Rap Radar's) publicist Tracy Nguyen doesn't keep still *at all*. She greeted BdotTM and I when we got to the event and insisted we come in with her, earlier then everyone else. B dot was waiting for his lady friend so I went on in with Tracy (Tracy managed to take a flick of B dot and I).

The set up in Pink Elephant - beautiful. Spacious. Pink Elephant didn't match the usual event venue. Intimate (aka tight). Ran into folks at VIBE I hadn't seen since I interned (ha yea right, I always see VIBE staff since I'm always at a VIBE event). It was good to see them though. Its hard to keep up with Shirea nowadays since she's doing VIBEtv for VIBE.com. Catch her on the red carpet or here.

Night ended with Alana, Brandon and I heading home in a cab. Fun conversation plus a funny cab driver equals a great ride home. Check Brandon out below.

Today was fun. Went up to Shade 45 with Angela Yee. The-Dream stopped by to do some promo for his album. I've been a fan of his since his debut album LoveHate but meeting him today was NOT a pleasurable experience. Dude was a bit too feminine for me but the Shade 45 fam said dudes from Atlanta are either gay or feminine, so I guess Dream is the better of the two.

Just got home from dinner with Shirea. Had fun but I'm super tired. Been working straight since Tuesday, March 3. Hitting the sack now! But I'll be back tomorrow with more exciting things : )

Make Calls on Your iPod Touch

While searching for applications for my iPod, I came across a YouTube video that shows ipod users how to make free calls from their iPods and iPhones.

Only thing is, folks you're calling can't hear you so you gotta go out and get a microphone/headset. I googled and they come to about $25 with shipping and handling. Pretty good investment.

Oh yea, and you gotta have internet service for it to actually go through. I am now on a mission to find out how to hack or jailbreak the iPod touch to have WIFI everywhere. Stay tuned.

Brownskin, You Know I Love Your Brown Skin...

Why can't black people ever start on time? Folks were told to arrive at 7:30pm to a show that would be starting at 8:00pm. Think the show actually started at 8:30pm. Audience members and press are being seated (seats are very uncomfortable). Dude that seems to be in charge of production puts up a hand silencing everyone. My head was down and into my blackberry so I missed it; started speaking in a normal voice and felt *everyone* could hear me -- lol. Shirea and I cracked up. Everyone is then told to silence their phones. In 2009, I'm just curious to know. who actually does that? The most I'll do is put it on vibrate or silent but off, never.

Ms. Arie finally walks out and looks beautiful in an orange ensemble. She later lets us know it was made by her Mom the previous night in the hotel room (props to Mama Arie). Of course a soundcheck has been done but just to be sure, India along with her background vocalists and band start off with Video. Great choice since its a song the crowd would definitely know.

At this point, its feeling like incense or oil should be burning to match the natural look of the crowd and India Arie's band.

As many times as I've heard Video, this time was different. The words seemed to pop out at me like I was lookin' at em in 3D. "And I know our creator didnt make no mistakes on me / My feet, my thighs, my lips, my eyes; Im lovin what I see..." She goes on to tell us that on this, her fourth album, Testimony Vol. 2: Love & Politics, she's added a few verses. Very superwoman-ish. Like Alicia Keys' Superwoman.

On to another track off the new album, India introduces Ghetto. Song is dope, I must admit, but Miss India looked like she was catchin the Holy Ghost ; ) shoutin and all! Now, what's funny to me is that artists always take forever to introduce their band. We're what, 3 songs in and now India decides to introduce everybody... As she's going around and introducing each person, each member stands and throws up a peace sign to make a connection with the crowd. India ends the band presentation with her male backup singer to introduce him to the next song. Right away, I knew she was about to perform...

Now, the song is featuring Musiq Soulchild but I knew he wasn't gonna be making an appearance tonight. India introduces the song by saying, "Its nice to be a woman of color in this industry, write sensual and sultry songs and it not be *about* sex." Right after she said that, an audience member shouts "amen." LOL - told yall she took it to church ; ) Male backup singer is doing a good job but he's no Musiq Soulchild - honestly would have preferred to see Sir Soulchild but what can ya do?

Despite the fact that he has tantrums on stage as B dot would say, his music genius is evident and something folks should have watched out for a long time ago.

to let you know about Seven Pounds? Went to see it Christmas Eve with Nadine, Alana and Joel after some shopping. What an awesome movie! Started off a bit confusing, and ended that way too but the love in the movie is clear. Below, a description of Seven Pounds via Wikipedia.

The seven people Tim helps are Emily Posa (to whom he gives his heart), Ezra Turner (to whom he gives his eyes), Ben Thomas (to whom he gives his lung), Holly (to whom he gives his right half of his liver), Connie (to whom he gives his house), Nicholas (to whom he donates bone marrow) and George (to whom he donates a kidney to in order to get off of dialysis). Hence the title of the movie is finally revealed: Ben Thomas donates seven pounds of flesh in order to seek redemption for the seven innocent lives he took that fateful night.

the fam yesterday... I dunno what it is but folks weren't feeling very Christmas-y. I got to my Mom's house at about 11 am. She has this thing where she doesn't want me to open my gifts immediately... wants me to wait a minute (I guess so she can take pictures and stuff). As expected, she got me a 16 gig iPod touch : ) To my surprise, she also got me a digital camera : D I wasn't even sure she knew how to pick out a digital camera AND a memory card to go with it ; ) hahaha. So to get on her nerves, I started taking pictures of her in her "house clothes." Man was she pissed, so I had to delete those pics. I did manage to sneak a few pics of her making the macaroni & cheese and potato salad (yummy).

Got to the Haitian folks house about 3 pm and shortly after, we ate. I wasn't feelin meat so I only ate kale, macaroni & cheese, potato salad and plaintain.. yea I know, not the healthiest thing but.... anyhoo. Managed to have a good time despite the fact I'm antisocial.

All in all, it was a Merry Christmas. Spent it with folks I love (I guess).

It's been too long

since the last time I blogged. I really have no excuse besides the fact that Friday I wasn't feeling well, Saturday I spent the entire day shopping and Sunday, well I stayed in bed ALL day. Christmas is 10 days away and I haven't done much shopping for other folks. I fell in love with these Christian Dior shoes in Nordstrom but had to calm down. They were originally $1200 and were on sale for $500... pretty good deal but they're not really for this time of year. I honestly bought a bunch of things I didn't really need but I needed to just get out and do some shopping.

Got out to Roosevelt Field at 11:45 am and didn't get back home til 12:30 am! So when I say I spent the entire day shopping, I'm NOT joking. I wish I woulda got my hair and/or nails done yesterday but I was having too much fun relaxing... Hopefully I can get a quick wash 'n set tomorrow : \ .

Tiffany, Tracy and myself were walking to the train station after a meeting last night.

Overly drunk white dude stumbles over to us.

Comes a little too close.

Tiffany calls him out on it, "Sir, you're too close."

Two white dudes come up the train steps just in time to hear "sir, you're too close."

White dude A says, "back the f%#@ up dude, you heard her!"

Vibe Vixen Hosts an Event

Got in just a bit ago from a Vibe Vixen event at Saks Fifth Avenue. Got treated to a manicure and massage as well as a chocolate and wine tasting.

As a gift, each "vixen" was given a $50 giftcard to Saks. Yea I know, what can you get for $5o but it will be nice to take $5o off the total of a purchase. I looked around for some shoes but couldn't really find anything I liked. Sale is going on for a few more days. I'll check it out this weekend.

Tonight Isn't Going As Planned

But when does life ever go as planned? Earlier I mentioned that I would be going out with the folks I interned with in Spring 2008. Unfortunately, almost everyone had to cancel so its not happening. On another note, I may be going to the club with my bestie and some old friends - should be fun.

Tomorrow, scheduled to go to brunch with an old friend for a quick chat and chew. Haven't seen her in a while so that'll definitely be fun.

The Randomness That is My Life

Went up to Sirius radio this morning to meet my boss. When I got there, Ryan Leslie was standing in the lobby of the building lookin rather dapper. I know a lotta dudes aren't fans of fitted (not tight) jeans but I love it. Especially when you've got the right build and all. So yea, Mr. Leslie was sporting fitted jeans, some funky boots and shades. I approached, said wassup and gave my credentials ; ) Now that I think of it, I shoulda took a pic or a video to show you guys. Oh well, will do next time.

Party & Bulls#@%

As a surprise to myself, I made it to each party last night. Started off at the Def Jam sponsored Electrik Red joint. The-Dream walked in right before I did (which was pretty late) and he was the one hosting the event. He got on stage shortly after and presented the girls. VIP wasn't so VIP. It was hot and just too crowded. I could barely see Electrik Red performing since there was a huge column right in front of me. Did get a glimpse of them though. I guess they got the name from the fact that they're so "electric" (womp womp) but don't know if the sound really fits. Definitely got the thing image down. Sporting bright red tights, a gapped open hoodie with a leopard bra showing is sure to deem you eye candy. The chicks reminded me of The Pussycat Dolls but more on the Lil' Kim side. REAL RAUNCHY. One of em, who I think resembled Amanda Diva, had on what looked like panties and her ass was hanging out. And the dudes went crazy. And just like that, the performance ended and it was time for press pictures. Editor-in-Chief of Vibe Magazine Danyel Smith heads over to the press area, poses for pictures with The-Dream and Electrik Red. And then we're out. (I'm rolling with Danyel Smith and Shirea L. Carroll for the evening.)

Next stop, Laura Izibor V Sessions at The Cutting Room.

Pull up to The Cutting Room and our car driver is real extra. Jumps out the car to open the door when all that isn't even necessary. We're all big girls, we can handle opening a door. Anyhoo, the front of The Cutting Room is occupied by hungry New Yorkers enjoying a glass of wine over what appeared to be nice conversation. Get to the rear of the restaurant/lounge and Laura Izibor is rendering a selection. Didn't really catch the name of her songs but enjoyed her music a lot. Her soulful sound and eclectic look makes her a blend of Joss Stone and Corinne Bailey Rae meets Lauryn Hill. Setting is much more enjoyable then the first, we can breathe a little more now. Missed most of the show so after the second song, its over and once again, its press time. Shirea managed to get a hold of the mic and steal some camera time. She did the video interview with Laura Izibor for VibeTV and did an excellent job (I was taking notes). Photographer Odalys was one of the photographers for the evening. And just like that, we're gone.

Back in the car with this EXTRA driver opening doors. The three of us realize, we're STARVING. Danyel mentions Pop Burger but its not looking good right now. Need to head to this Common thing.

Pull up. We're curbside the red carpet, folks with "the list" come up to the car like, "who do we have here?" Response is quick from Shirea, "Danyel Smith the Editor-in-Chief of Vibe Magazine plus 2 guests." And just as quick as we were greeted, we were in there. The randomness started with this freight elevator that made you feel like you were eliminated from I Want to Work for Diddy. Arrive to what seems like the 30th floor into Skyline Studios. The event starts off with Danyel doing the red carpet, posing for pictures and doing video interviews with BET's The Black Carpet and Essence Magazine. Quick look around the loft makes me feel a lot more comfortable. It's SPACIOUS! The last two events were jam packed - ugggh. Soon after the red carpet, we head over to the bar for a couple of free drinks (keep in mind we're all starving). Looking around, I see the networking thing is happening left and right. Danyel introduces Shirea and I to folks passing by... well, she doesn't really do the introducing but lets/makes us speak for ourselves. Funniest thing is when Danyel doesn't remember the person's name and plays it real cool (mental note). Night goes on, Common finally arrives and my breathing intensifies and Shirea claims it looks like I can't breathe. LOL. He performs and we're out.

Had a great yet tiring time going to three parties... I dunno how Danyel does it so often.
